About Confidentiality
Your privacy is very important to us, therefore what you say in counselling sessions is confidential within HYCS other than in exceptional circumstances.  If we are very worried about your safety, or that of others, we may need to let others know.  We may for example need to get external help to keep you safe in addition to the support we can give you.

HYCS works with hundreds of young people every year and receives excellent feedback from our clients - here are just a few examples in their words of their experience of the HYCS counselling service:

“I can cope better with other people and I haven’t got much issues now. I achieved confidences and to cope a lot better with my issues. I think it helps people a lot."

“I was able to get a lot of things off my chest.”

“I’ve been able to be more confident in myself since I took these sessions”.

“I gain what I hoped to achieve by talking to more people. It has boosted my confidence as well. It really helps people who are struggling.”

"It helps you get out what you are thinking and feeling."

"I was finding it hard to understand a lot of things that were going through my head and now I feel like i have received more than enough help with these things". (Client 2020)

“It’s when someone listens to how you feel. They won’t tell you that you’re wrong. You are allowed to feel how you want to feel”.  (Client’s words)

We all need support from time to time and counselling provides a safe, supportive and confidential space to explore and work through whatever is troubling you with a trained counsellor. We are here to listen with acceptance, empathy and without judgement.

There are many different types of counselling and here at HYCS we offer a Humanistic approach –we believe that we are all able to grow and change given the right conditions.  Our counsellors will therefore listen carefully to what you say, without judging and in confidence, helping you to work through problems and to develop in your own way so that you can achieve your potential.

If you want to know more about the different types of counselling to see if this is the right approach for you – check out this link to the BACP guide to therapy types. If you are looking for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) please speak to your doctor who will be able to advise.

Your privacy is very important to us, therefore what you say in counselling sessions is confidential within HYCS other than in exceptional circumstances.  If we are very worried about your safety, or that of others, we may need to let others know to get you extra help and external support to keep you safe whilst continuing to support you.  You can ask us at the intro session or speak to your counsellor to find out more.
