Hounslow Youth Counselling Service


HYCS offers a BACP-accredited counselling service - all of our counsellors are carefully selected, DBS checked, professionally trained and clinically supervised.

HYCS' Trustees help to give direction to the charity and are ultimately responsible for its activities. The Trustees' skills and experience are invaluable to the further development and growth of HYCS.  


Liz is an experienced youth worker and youth work manager, currently semi-retired following a move to Leicestershire. Liz has been involved with the Trustees Board since 2002 and has been Chair of Trustees for 6 years.  2020-21 will be the final year of her tenure. Her priorities are to concentrate on continuing HYCS's safe transition from the local authority and to strengthen the Board of Trustee's membership and its governance. 

Carolyn is a Senior Civil Servant at the Home Office, with experience of strategy and policy development and delivery across a number of government departments.   She has foundation level counselling training and is a qualified coach. As well as her involvement in HYCS, she mentors a child in care.

Holly works on the Schools Team at the Education and Employers Charity, where she supports teachers with planning career aspiration opportunities for their students. She aims to help young people broaden their horizons and break down gender stereotypes, enabling all young people to pursue their aspirations. Holly joined HYCS in January 2019 as minutes-secretary on the committee. 

Dr Alex Doig works as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Richmond Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.  Prior to this he was an Adolescent Psychiatrist for 11 years at Hounslow CAMHS. 

Rupa has been volunteering as a HYCS counsellor since May 2019 and trained as a children's and adolescent counsellor. She has previously worked in secondary school as part of the inclusion department and currently is working in a primary school with children with autism. She qualified in 2017 and has worked as a counsellor in mainstream secondary school. She is currently working towards a diploma in energy psychotherapy and is keen to integrate this into talking therapy and can see how powerful these methods can be used in helping to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Carol has worked with adolescents and their families for 30+ years, inspired by young people and how they find their own unique strategies for coping with the pressures of the world .Mary has worked in Hounslow for 14 years and is the Consultant Lead Family Therapist for CAMHS in West London Mental Health Trust. Mary enjoys being a board member of HYCS, 'It's an organisation whose aims and values I trust'.

Charlotte is a director in the communications and government affairs team for a large FTSE 100 company with experience in business strategy, communications, large change projects, systems and user journey design. She is deeply passionate about mental health matters; becoming interested in it after volunteering on a community mental health mentoring scheme some years ago. This eventually led her to train as a counsellor (starting CPCAB Level 3 in 2020). Charlotte also has experience working with, and fundraising for, other charities like (the former) Kids Company and The Royal Marsden, and would love the opportunity to support and advocate for HYCS more formally as an officer.

Mary is a qualified systemic psychotherapist and has over 30 years experience of working with young people and their families in mental health settings. Through her work, she brings a knowledge and understanding of emotional and mental health needs of young people She is committed to ensuring that young people and their families have access to timely therapeutic support has been a member of the HYCS Trustee committee for 14 years.

Petra Raccani currently works in Special Educational Needs in a local school, she works with teenagers to enable their paths through the secondary education system. Petra has previously worked in the NHS for almost 20 years as a Human Resources professional in Acute Health Care Trusts.

Jean is a retired Company Director, since retiring has worked for several Charities offering services to Young People. Jean presented Enterprise Education days throughout London schools for Young Enterprise and now offers Mentoring and Befriending for Volunteering Matters.

With more than 30 years’ experience, HYCS has a trusted team of professional, counsellors who have all received specialist counselling training.

All have also been through HYCS’ rigorous recruitment and training programme which includes a further 45 hours of specialist training in working with young people.

Our counsellors are all registered with professional bodies including the BACP and UKCP and many are also fully Accredited Members of the BACP. All are ready to listen and experienced in working with young people.

The HYCS counselling team includes both volunteer counsellors and also paid members of staff.

HYCS' dedicated and friendly admin' team ensures the smooth running of the service day to day.

From taking your calls and booking intro sessions to data entry and coordinating materials for counsellors, their role is vital to the service.
